The Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge is a goal-oriented program exploring trails throughout the Truckee Meadows. Once registered, your challenge lasts for one year. Set a goal, go out and hike, and join the Parks Foundation every month by signing up for the guided, interpretive hike that focuses on the natural and cultural history of the area.

You must register as a Trails Challenge member to participate in this program.

How it Works

1. SET YOUR GOAL

Become a registered member of the Trails Challenge and set a goal for how many miles you want to accomplish within one year of signing up for the Trails Challenge. If you are a Washoe County School District employee keep in mind you have until December 31st to complete the Trails Challenge.

2. CHECK OUT THE GUIDED HIKE SCHEDULE

Mark your calendar for guided hikes you are interested in attending with us! We will explore the local biodiversity, history, and associated themes of the trail. Sign-ups are available two weeks before the scheduled guided hike, so check back and register in advance!

3. SELECT YOUR TRAILS

After you become a registered member, you will receive an email and a welcome packet with tools to get you started. These include our Trail Log to track your miles and the Truckee Meadows Trail Guide which contains a  list of Washoe County trails. Decide which trails are right for you and...

4. GET OUT AND EXPLORE!

5. LOG YOUR TRAILS AS YOU GO

When you complete a trail, record it in your provided trail log. All miles you hike, regardless of where or who you are with, count towards your goal! Remember to give yourself a pat on the back - you’re on your way to accomplishing your goal!

5. RETURN YOUR COMPLETED TRAIL LOG

Your Trails Challenge membership ends one year from the date that you signed up. Upon nearing the end of your subscription year, remember to send us your completed trails log!  You can send your log by email to tara@tmparksfoundation.org  or mail it to 50 Cowan Drive, Reno NV 89509. Soon after, you can pick up your completion gifts!

Challenge Levels include:

Pathfinder: 5 miles of completed trails
Explorer: 10 miles of completed trails
Adventurer: 25 miles of completed trails
Voyager: 50 miles of completed trails
Conqueror: 100 miles of completed trails

Your miles are not limited to these boundaries!
