Adventure Series hikes are 4-5 miles long. Please bring plenty of water on each hike!

Truckee Meadows Nature Study Area
January 25, 2020
Directions: From Idlewild park, take a right onto Booth street and head South toward Keystone Avenue. Take a left on Keystone and head North towards I-80 East. Take exit 20 (Sparks Blvd.) and then turn right onto Veterans Pkwy. Head South approximately 2 miles until you reach Pembroke Drive. Take a right onto Pembroke Drive and then take a quick left into the Rosewood Lakes Golf course parking lot.

Sparks Marina

Directions: From Idlewild park, take a right on Booth Street and head South toward Keystone Avenue. Take a left on Keystone Avenue and head North towards I-80 East. Stay on I-80 East for approximately 5 miles and then take exit 19 (South McCarron Blvd.). Take a left onto South McCarron Blvd. and head North toward E. Lincoln way. Take a right on E. Lincoln way and then take a right onto Howard Drive. Finally, take a left into the large parking lot and you'll have arrived at you destination.

Keystone Canyon (Adventure Series)

Directions: From Idlewild park, turn right onto Hunter Lake Drive and head South toward Mayberry Drive. Take a right onto Mayberry Drive and head East towards S McCarron Blvd. for approximately 2 miles. Turn right onto S McCarron Blvd. and head North for approximately 4 miles. Then turn left onto Leadership Pkwy and the trailhead will be on your right. Make sure to take EAST Keystone Canyon Trailhead.

Directions: From Idlewild park, take a right onto Booth street and head South toward Keystone Avenue. Take a left on Keystone and head North towards I-80 East. Merge onto I-80 East and head towards exit 15 (I-580 S/US-395). Head South on I-580 for approximately 21 miles and then take exit 44 (Eastlake Blvd.) Take a left onto Eastlake Blvd. and head East for approximately 4 miles. The entrance to the park will be on your left.

Directions: From Idlewild park, take a right on Hunter Lake Drive and head South toward Plumb lane. Turn left onto Plumb lane and head East to until you get to Plumas Street. Turn right onto Plumas Street and head South for approximtely 2 miles. Next, take a left on South McCarron Blvd. then turn right onto Lakeside Drive. Head South on Lakeside Drive for approximately 2 miles and then turn right onto Lone Tree Drive. The Trailhead will be on the right.

Directions: From Idlewild park, take a right on Booth Street and head South toward Keystone Avenue. Take a left on Keystone Avenue and head North towards I-80 East. Merge onto I-80 East and head towards exit 18 (Pyramid Way/ NV-445 N). Take exit 18 and head straight on Pyramid Way for approximately 3 miles. Next, turn right onto disc drive and then take a final right into the park entrance.

Directions: From Idlewild park, turn right onto Hunter Lake Drive and head South toward Mayberry Drive. Take a right onto Mayberry Drive and head East for approximately 5 miles. Turn left onto West 4th Street then take a left onto Woodland Avenue. Head straight for a quarter mile to the park entrance. approximately 0.5 miles and then turn right into Mayberry Park.

Take a right onto Mayberry Drive and head East towards S McCarron Blvd. for approximately 2 miles. Turn right onto S McCarron Blvd. and head North for approximately 6 miles. Turn left on N Virginia Street and then take a left into the Reno Sports Complex.
Jones Creek Loop

Merge onto I-80 East and head towards exit 15 (I-580 S/US-395). Head South on I-580 for approximately 10 miles and then take exit 56 (NV-431 W/Mt. Rose Hwy). Stay on Mt. Rose highway for approximately 6 miles and then turn right into the Galena Visitor Center. Drive past the Visitor Center and pull into the third parking lot on the right.

Directions: From Idlewild park, take a right onto Booth street and head South toward Keystone Avenue. Take a left on Keystone and head North towards I-80 East. Merge onto I-80 East and head towards exit 15 (I-580 S/US-395). Head South on I-580 for approximately 10 miles and then take exit 56 (NV-431 W/Mt. Rose Hwy). Stay on Mt. Rose highway for approximately 6 miles and then turn left onto Joy Lake Road. Drive approximately 1.5 miles down Joy Lake Road and a small parking area will be on your left.

Rose Hwy. for approximately 18 miles and your destination will be on the left.

McCarran Ranch

Directions: The McCarran Ranch Preserve is located approximately 15 minutes from Reno, NV. Take I-80 East from Reno to the Patrick exit (#28). Follow Waltham Way south across the Truckee River. Turn right at intersection and then right again onto Wild Horse Canyon Drive. Access road to the trailhead will be on your right after approximately 1/4 mile.

Turn left onto Plateau Road and head South for approximately 1 mile then turn right onto Woodchuck Circle. The trailhead will be on the right.

Directions: From Idlewild park, turn right onto Hunter Lake Drive and head South toward Plumb Lane. Turn left onto W Plumb Lane after 2.4 miles turn right onto Kietzke Ln. Turn left onto E Peckham Ln and turn right onto Airway Dr. Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto S McCarran Blvd. Finally, turn right onto Alexander Lake Rd and follow that to the Trailhead which will be on your left.

We do our best to ensure our walks are safe for all participants. Therefore we regularly check the air quality in Washoe County and cancel programs when air quality is at an unhealthy level. If you signed up to participate in a Discover Your Parks walk, we will inform you by email if the hike is canceled due to poor air quality. To check the air quality in Washoe County we use AirNow.gov​ to make our decision. We encourage you to also use airnow.gov to make informed decisions on whether or not participating in our programs is safe for you.
