Development Officer


Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation supports Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County parks primarily by providing in-park programming, fundraising for park infrastructure upgrades, and opportunities for citizen engagement. The Parks Foundation is an independent, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization. In the five years since its founding,  the Parks Foundation has grown to a full-time permanent staff of five individuals overseeing 15 AmeriCorps members who serve one-year terms. Our current programs focus on improving community health and wellness, science education, and developing appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in our local parks.


Position Description:

The Development Officer will be an essential part of the Parks Foundation leadership team. This person will manage development operations in order to ensure a formidable future for this grassroots organization. This person will also be the primary supervisor to three AmeriCorps VISTA members. VISTA supervisor duties include conducting on-site orientations and training, evaluations and project delegation and support.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations;

  • Assist the Executive Director in grant research, writing and reporting;

  • Create a fundraising plan for 2019 and coordinate duties with the development team, Executive Director, and Board of Directors to ensure it is executed successfully;

  • Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives;

  • Manage development operations, including grant writing and administration, donor communications, and fundraising appeals;

  • Makes effective use of TMPF’s donor database to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, and volunteers;

  • Act as primary supervisor for TMPF’s Resource Development Coordinator VISTA, Membership Coordinator VISTA, and Nature Study Area Development Coordinator VISTA;

  • Assist TMPF’s Executive Director and Special Programs Manager in the management of the AmeriCorps VISTA grant including:

    • Compiling and submitting required grant reports;

    • Tracking grant performance measures;

    • Oversight of some programmatic evaluations;

    • Assist in AmeriCorps VISTA grant writing and annual renewal process;

  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

    • Lead occasional on-site programming such as walks, hikes or school programs. Training will be provided as necessary;

    • Special events throughout the year including occasional evenings and weekends.



  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years related professional experience;

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills;

  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and/or fundraising abilities;

  • Must pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license;

  • Preferred: 1+ years in a management position;

  • Preferred: experience serving as, or managing AmeriCorps and/or Peace Corps members.


Reports to: Executive Director


Compensation: $30,000 - $35,000


Benefits: 80 hours personal leave per calendar year, accruable up to 100 hours. 80 hours sick leave per calendar year, non-accruable. Up to $400 per month for health coverage reimbursement (proof of health insurance required); retirement IRA matched at 3% after one-year of employment.  


Location: Reno, NV


Timeline: December 2018 start with annual contract review.
