Communications Manager

Summary

The Communications Manager will be an essential part of the Parks Foundation that stewards the marketing, communications, and outreach department and its members. This person will foster positive public awareness, understanding, and support of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation through effective oversight and execution of strategic marketing and communications through print and digital media. This person will also oversee the Communications Coordinator VISTA, Wetland Restoration Outreach Coordinator VISTA and share in supervision of the Student Stewards Program Outreach Coordinator VISTA. The Communications Manager will work closely with the Development Director and other staff leaders to support and market available programs and opportunities for the community.

Position Description

The Communications Manager will be an essential part of the Parks Foundation that stewards the marketing, communications, and outreach department and its members. This person will foster positive public awareness, understanding, and support of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation through effective oversight and execution of strategic marketing and communications through print and digital media. This person will also oversee the Communications Coordinator VISTA, Wetland Restoration Outreach Coordinator VISTA and share in supervision of the Student Stewards Program Outreach Coordinator VISTA. VISTA supervisor duties include recruiting, conducting on-site orientations and training, evaluations and project delegation and support throughout the member’s year of service. The Communications Manager will work closely with the Development Director and other staff leaders to support and market available programs and opportunities for the community.

Primary Responsibilities

Communications Tasks:

  • Create and execute a cohesive, cost-effective marketing plan to support Parks Foundation programs, projects, and community initiatives.

  • Create and steward an effective communications and marketing budget with respect to fiscal support available through community donations and grant funding. Work with community partners and local organizations to achieve sponsorships and secure advertising donations.

  • Train and develop AmeriCorps VISTA members to assist in content and graphics development, content distribution, and media analytics. Steward communications members with weekly and monthly content meetings

  • Oversee the maintenance and development of all media including website pages and social media accounts, to ensure language is accurate, user-friendly, and reflective of the Parks Foundation mission;

  • Oversee the development of social media and marketing content, press releases, website landing pages, newsletters, and public statements.

  • Develop social media marketing and advertising campaigns to support Parks Foundation programs, fundraising and awareness campaigns.

  • Coordinate press releases, interviews, program and site visits for media, public gatherings, and event coverage (internal and external);

  • Oversee the analysis and reporting for website and social media analytics through the use of Google Data Studio;

  • Collaborate with various departments to develop and implement sustainable marketing and communications strategy across social media platforms and WIX website;

  • Oversee the procurement, formatting, and publishing of weekly blog content while collaborating with AmeriCorps members, staff and community partners to gather submissions focused on sharing the Parks Foundation’s mission.

  • Manage community outreach including events and tabling;

  • Continue to incorporate content advancements such as Spanish language materials and build website and social media content supportive of efforts towards Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

  • Collaborate with various departments to organize, label, and maintain an inventory of photo work, artwork and film on file and in Google Drive.

  • Create and maintain a database of communications processes and procedures to provide training and sustainability within the Communications Department.


Supervisory Tasks:

  • Oversee Communications Coordinator VISTA, Wetland Restoration Outreach Coordinator VISTA and SSP Outreach Coordinator VISTA throughout their year of service;

  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment through constructive feedback, professional development, and future career planning;

  • Secure relevant training opportunities to support communications and non-profit professionals for AmeriCorps VISTA members and relevant staff

  • Review and approve time-off requests, timecards and mileage reimbursements for VISTA members

  • Provide 90-day, six month, and final term performance evaluations to all direct reports;


Recruitment Tasks:

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing and onboarding for Communications Coordinator VISTA, Wetland Restoration Outreach Coordinator VISTA and SSP Outreach Coordinator VISTA.

  • In collaboration with VISTA Leader, oversee Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation’s VISTA recruitment database and assist in the creation and dispersion of VISTA service opportunities and VISTA Assignment Descriptions (VADs);

  • Track and comply with VISTA recruitment deadlines;

  • Conduct VISTA on-site orientations and trainings.

  • Collaborate with other AmeriCorps supervisors to provide relevant information and feedback to service members as they complete projects during their service year.


Misc. Job Functions:

  • Including but not limited to:

  • Provide support to Executive Director and additional leadership staff as needed

  • Lead occasional on-site programming such as walks, hikes or school programs. Training will be provided as necessary;

  • Special events throughout the year including occasional evenings and weekends.


Reports to: Executive Director

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years related professional experience;

  • Exceptional writing and communication skills;

  • Able to provide dynamic professional development and leadership to AmeriCorps members responsible for content development and distribution

  • Demonstrated success in marketing campaigns, outreach, press releases, short-form and long-form content, graphic design;

  • Knowledge of digital marketing and website analytics as well as experience with Google Data Studio or other similar analytics tools;

  • Must pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license;

  • Preferred: experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring;

  • Preferred: reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language.

  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience with social media marketing, digital advertising, WIX website platform, G Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite, Google Data Studio, etc.

  • Preferred: experience serving as, or managing AmeriCorps and/or Peace Corps members.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $36,000 - $40,000


Benefits: 80 hours personal leave per calendar year, accruable up to 100 hours. 80 hours sick leave per calendar year, non-accruable. Up to $400 per month for health coverage reimbursement (proof of health insurance required); retirement IRA matched at 3% after one-year of employment.
