
Lead Wetland Restoration Technician

Summary
The Wetland Restoration. Lead Technician will primarily assist in the development of the Rosewood Nature Study Area through leadership, research design, field duties, and data collection and analysis.
Position Description
The AmeriCorps Wetland Restoration Lead Technician will be an essential member of the team for this non-profit organization. This person will implement and support the Wetland Restoration Program. The Wetland Restoration Program aims to restore a decommissioned, city golf course back to a functional wetland system. This AmeriCorps member will assist in restoration through leadership, research design, invasive plant removal, native plant establishment, site monitoring, trail maintenance, and community education. Members in this position will have the unique opportunity to lay the foundation for the development of a nature study area in the Truckee Meadows. Timeline for Service: September 2022 - August 2023
Primary Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
● Facilitate the Wetland Restoration Program;
● Lead and motivate wetland crew members through tasks;
● Collect data and assist others in data collection techniques;
● Monitor collected data for accuracy;
● Coordinate and implement project logistics;
● Facilitate weekly crew meetings and debriefs;
● Remove invasive plant species and other debris through manual, mechanical, and
chemical techniques;
● Revegetate treated areas with native species through seeding, planting, and plugging;
● Construct and maintain park trails and bridges;
Secondary Responsibilities:
● Monitor study plots;
● Collect and analyze data from multiple sources using google sheets and GIS software;
● Interact with park visitors
Secondary Responsibilities:
● Develop relationships with park visitors;
● Recruit, coordinate, train and retain volunteers;
● Facilitate other interpretive programs such as Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge and
Discover Your Parks walks
Qualifications
● Passionate commitment to TMPF’s mission and vision;
● Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field OR
previous experience as a field technician;
● High degree of initiative and spirit of service;
● Ability to complete tasks with limited supervision;
● Exceptional communication skills;
● Strong writing skills;
● Exceptional organizational skills;
● Preferred: Knowledge of Great Basin and wetland plant species;
● Preferred: Leadership experience;
● Preferred: Experience in data collection and analysis.
Physical Demands:
● Lift up to 50-70 pounds of material or equipment
● Bend, lift, pull, and push
● Crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, or bend for long periods of time
● Walk for long periods of time on uneven surfaces
● Be outside in extreme heat or cold (depending on season)
AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements:
● Be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of service; or be an out-of-school
youth 16 years of age at the commencement of service participating in a program
described in §2522.110(b)(3) or (g);
● Have a high school diploma or its equivalent; OR not have dropped out of elementary
or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant and must agree to obtain a
high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award; OR obtain a
waiver from the Corporation of the requirements in paragraphs (a)(2)(i) and (a)(2)(ii)
of this section based on an independent evaluation secured by the program
demonstrating that the individual is not capable of obtaining a high school diploma or
its equivalent; or be enrolled in an institution of higher education on an ability to
benefit basis and be considered eligible for funds under section 484 of the Higher
Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1091);
● Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
● Successfully pass the National Service Criminal History Check (NSCHC) and
National Sex Offender Program Registry check
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation:
In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance of $26,000/year, health benefits during their service, child care if necessary, and will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,495.00.
