Restoration Crew Manager

Summary

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is looking for a skilled field crew leader who loves being outdoors for a full-time, permanent Restoration Crew Manager position. As a high energy, outdoor focused 501(c) (3) non-profit, we protect and enhance our communities’ livability through public engagement, education, and the sustainability of our parks, trails, and open spaces. This is not your typical crew management position. While field supervision is a must, this position will also collaborate on a state of the art interpretive signage plan, create an outdoor learning space for the public to engage with their natural world, survey wildlife to collect data on the restoration’s effects on nature, and help restore a space for the community to discover the magic of the outdoors for generations.

Position Description

The Restoration Crew Manager is an essential part of the Parks Foundation leadership team. This person will manage the wetland restoration program and serve as the primary supervisor and mentor for up to twelve AmeriCorps State and National members. Member supervisory duties include interviewing candidates, orientation training, evaluations, and project delegation and support.

Primary Responsibilities

Field:

  • Lead and supervise wetland restoration crews in all aspects of field work including invasive species removal, native revegetation, trail maintenance and construction, and herbicide application;

  • In collaboration with wetland restoration crew, collect field data from wildlife surveys, vegetative surveys, trail cameras, etc.;

  • Map treatment areas using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS online;

  • Track and update the nature study area’s integrated pest management plan;

Administrative:

  • Create an annual restoration work plan and coordinate duties with the wetland restoration team and Nature Study Area Vice President to ensure it is executed successfully;

  • Ensure field data accuracy;

  • Track wetland restoration crew certificates including applicator license and CPR/First Aid;

  • Monitor and approve wetland restoration crew timesheets through OnCorps;

  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Lead occasional on-site programming such as walks, hikes or school programs. Training will be provided as necessary;

  • Special events throughout the year including occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Passionate commitment to TMPF’s mission and vision;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field OR equivalent experience;

  • High degree of initiative;

  • Knowledge of Great Basin and wetland plant species;

  • Trail construction/maintenance experience;

  • Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS;

  • Exceptional communication skills;

  • Strong writing skills;

  • Exceptional organizational skills;

  • Must pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license;

  • Preferred: 1+ years in a management position;

  • Preferred: experience serving and/or managing AmeriCorps and/or Peace Corps members.

Compensation and Benefits

Reports to:  Nature Study Area Vice President


Compensation: $45,000
