Youth Sustainability Educator
The Youth Educator AmeriCorps will implement KTMB’s Youth Education program, which is designed to inspire students to be environmental stewards through KTMB’s Waste Warriors, Weed Warriors and Watershed Warriors educational curricula. KTMB’s Warriors lessons engage students in STEM-based, hands-on learning activities with the goal of empowering students to preserve our community’s land and water, as well as improve academic engagement and promote educational success.
The Youth Educator AmeriCorps will be an essential member of KTMB’s team. This person will primarily schedule and present Warriors lessons to K-12 students throughout Washoe County for school classrooms, after-school clubs, summer day camps, and other youth programs. The Youth Educator will maintain relationships with the educators who request to schedule Warriors presentations, obtain and upload data from each presentation, and prepare and refill supplies for each presentation. The Youth Educator will also assist the Youth Education Coordinator with enhancing the curricula and conducting KTMB’s biannual teacher training event.
KTMB’s Youth Education program targets underserved public schools to empower students to problem-solve neighborhood blight and other environmental issues that lower the quality of life, health, and economy in the Truckee Meadows. This AmeriCorps member will also help schedule and present field trips for elementary school students to KTMB’s Sensory Garden at Idlewild Park. The Youth Educator AmeriCorps will also have the opportunity to represent KTMB during community events and fulfill other duties as assigned.
