Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is hosting an interactive meeting to gain community input on the proposed Nature Study Area, formerly known as the Rosewood Lakes Golf Course. The meeting will be on September 4th from 6pm to 7pm. There will be activities for kids as we discuss the future of this natural wetland habitat.

Smoke-free parks coming soon

July 25, 2018

The Reno City Council moved forward with an ordinance that would enact a smoking and vaping ban in parks and trails in Reno. The Washoe County Commission is expected to consider a similar ban in a few months. The movement to ban smoking in parks came after a TMPF survey in November 2017 found that 76% of respondents were in favor of limiting or banning smoking in parks.

We've added Spanish Interpretative Hikes !

As an extension of the Discover Your Parks Walks program, TMPF has added a few interpretative hikes completely in Spanish! As part of our Healthy Parks Healthy People initiative, we want to encourage diversity and community involvement in all of our parks. Information about which hikes are in Spanish can be found on our Facebook event. 

Who let the dogs out?

The Biggest Little Dog Park officially opened to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The downtown dog park features both a small and big dog play area. The ceremony marks the completion of Phase I. Fundraising for Phase II is still underway.

TMPF was lucky to be one of three northern Nevada nonprofits to receive a FREE automatic sunscreen dispenser and a supply of sunscreen donated by the Nevada Cancer Coalition. The sunscreen has been in use all summer during our Student Stewards Summer Camp and will continue to benefit the community at our outdoor events. 

Idlewild Park Invasive Species Removal Day

February 17, 2018

Over 60 volunteers joined Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation on a beautiful Saturday to remove invasive species from Idlewild Park. The removal focused on two invasive trees, the tree of heaven and the Siberian elm. Tools for the clean up were provided by Apex Saw Works, Shelly's True Value Hardware, and Moana Nursery. We thank the community for their support and hard work in removing these highly invasive plants from the park.

TMPF Talks : Weather in the The Sierra

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation was pleased to hold another lecture in their TMPF Talks lecture series Monday evening. This quarters talk was on the weather in the Sierra. The talk was well attended and participants were able to enjoy a well-rounded group of speakers that included Cassie Wilson from KRNV, Evan LaGuardia from NWS and Meghan Collins from DRI. 

Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge: Rancho San Rafael Regional Park

January 27, 2018

Saturday was our first Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge guided hike of 2018 and it was a huge success. Over 75 trails challenge members came out to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park for a beautiful hike through the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and around the pasture loop. Hikers learned about the ranching history of the area and about the importance of preserving wetland areas. The next guided hike is February 24th and we hope to have just as big of a crowd!
