​The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator VISTA will work to recruit and retain volunteers and members, as well as to improve KTMB’s community education and outreach efforts.
 

KTMB’s volunteer program is multi-faceted. KTMB volunteers serve in a variety of ways; as board and committee members, project leaders, special event volunteers, one-time and repeat volunteers. KTMB volunteers are all ages, from all walks of life and neighborhoods in the Truckee Meadows. They have a
hundred different day jobs, but they all come together to participate in KTMB’s cleanup initiatives.

Position Description

The Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will be an essential member of KTMB’s team. This person will improve the quality of KTMB’s volunteer program including recruiting, training, managing and retaining volunteers. They will empower community members to be stewards of the environment in the Truckee Meadows and develop service learning opportunities for schools and other community groups.
 

KTMB is a private, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community involvement. For over 25 years, KTMB has been working with businesses, municipalities, community groups and individuals to keep our open space areas, the Truckee River, business corridors, and neighborhoods beautiful for all to enjoy through our beautification, cleanup, and education programs and projects.

Service Location: Reno, NV

 

Timeline for Service: March 19, 2018 – March 18, 2019

Primary Responsibilities

  • Improve volunteer recruitment, training, management and recognition program;

  • Strengthen volunteer training protocols for and assist with volunteer management for KTMB’s Adopt-A-Spot program (park, open-space, river and roadway);

  • Plan and implement volunteer recruitment for and coordination of all major KTMB programs, projects and events;

  • Develop volunteer appreciation events throughout the year;

  • Develop service learning opportunities for schools and other community groups.

 

Qualifications

  • Passionate commitment to KTMB’s mission and vision

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Ability to multi­task in a fast­paced environment

  • Exceptional writing skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • High degree of initiative and spirit of service

  • Experience working with volunteers

  • Preferred: experience in volunteer recruitment and management

  • Preferred: experience with event planning

  • Preferred: experience working in a park or outdoor setting performing community beautification or conservation work

  • Preferred: Reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language.

AmeriCorps VISTA

KTMB’s Volunteer Coordinator VISTA position is funded by the Corporations for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year­long, full­time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. Compensation

In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $1,023/month and health benefits during their service and have the option of receiving a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,920.00 or post-service stipend of $1,500.00 after completing their service. A relocation travel allowance of no less than $550 may also apply if they are moving.
