Student Stewards Program Outreach Coordinator VISTA


The Student Stewards Program (SSP) Outreach Coordinator VISTA will focus on community outreach and marketing of the health benefits associated with the Parks Foundation’s youth educational programs and events including the Student Stewards Program and Junior Naturalist Program (JNats).  


Position Description:

The SSP Outreach Coordinator VISTA will be an essential member of the team for this growing non-profit organization. This VISTA will help develop a health focused marketing and outreach plan for Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation's youth educational programs and events including the Student Stewards and Junior Naturalist Programs. This person will enhance the advertising and outreach strategies used to promote and expand the Parks Foundation's health initiatives of SSP, JNats, Spring and Summer Camps via social media, traditional media, and streamlined website design.


Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a private nonprofit that was incorporated in 2012 and received its 501(c)(3) determination in 2013. The Parks Foundation protects and enhances our communities' livability through public engagement, education, and the sustainability of our parks, open spaces, and trails.

Service Location: Reno, NV


Timeline for Service: July 6, 2020 - July 5, 2021

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build an effective marketing and outreach plan for kids health and science based programs such as: Student Stewards Program (SSP), Junior Naturalists (JNats), SSP Spring Break Camp, and SSP Summer Camp;

  • Create partnerships for the expansion of SSP, JNats, and Spring and Summer Camps;

  • Develop relationships with teachers, principals, families, and participants in connection with Parks Foundation programs and events;

  • Develop best outreach practices for health based educational programming including traditional and social media marketing;  

  • Expand and maintain the Parks Foundation website with updates and information on SSP, JNats, and Spring and Summer Camps;

  • Track and manage advertising campaigns and engagement through social media.


  • Commitment to Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation mission and vision;

  • Bachelor’s degree;

  • Experience in marketing, public relations, and/or communications;

  • Experience in graphic and/or website design;

  • Exceptional writing skills;

  • Strong communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • High degree of initiative and spirit of service;

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;

  • Experience using social media and traditional media as tools for marketing and outreach;

  • Preferred: Reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language.


AmeriCorps VISTA:

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation’s SSP Outreach Coordinator Coordinator VISTA position is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. Compensation and Benefits:

  • In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a living allowance of $12,490. 

  • Health benefits during service.

  • Qualified student loan deferment or forbearance.

  • Non-competitive eligibility for qualified government jobs the first year after completing service. 

  • Upon completion of service, choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,095 or post-service stipend of $1,800. 

  • A relocation settling in allowance of $750 if you are moving more than 50 miles, and travel allowance based on mileage may also apply. 

  • Professional development through monthly trainings, skills learned in service, experience in a non-profit environment.

  • Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation offers flex time, mileage reimbursement for service-related travel, a casual dress code, and a fun office environment!
