ALL HIKES BEGIN AT 9:00 AM AND ARE APPROXIMATELY TWO MILES LONG
Rancho San Rafael and Arboretum Trail
January 27th, 2018
On this two-mile hike, we will be exploring one of the most popular parks in Reno. We will be hiking the pasture loop as we talk about the history of this former ranch and end in the Wilbur D. May Arboretum, which has over 4,000 plants on display. This is a fun hike for history and botany buffs alike! No Dogs are allowed on this hike. Restrooms are available.
Directions: (1595 North Sierra St., Reno)
While traveling on I-80, take exit 13 and drive straight until you reach Sierra St. Turn north onto Sierra St., and continue for about .7 miles until you reach Putnam Dr./Hillside Dr. Turn left (west) onto Putnam Dr. and travel about 1,000 ft. There will be a parking lot on your right (north) where we'll meet at the arboretum entrance (not the Wilbur D. May Museum parking lot).
February 24th, 2018
On this two-mile hike, we will be exploring the Crooked Mile between the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation office in Idlewild Park and Ivan Sack Park. With great views of the Truckee River and Oxbow Nature Study Area, this will be a great winter stroll for everyone to enjoy! Well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. Restrooms are available.

From downtown Reno, drive south on Arlington Ave. and turn right (west) on 1st St. After 700 feet turn left (south) onto Riverside Dr., and follow the road until it crosses the river. Make your first right (east) on Idlewild Dr, and the park will be on your right. Turn right (north) onto Cowan Dr., and meet us at our office located across from the California Building.
Sierra Vista Future Park Site
March 24th, 2018
This two-mile hike will take us through a park in progress as we explore the future site of the Sierra Vista Park. The former Northgate Golf Course was one of the best golf courses in the country and now the City of Reno is working toward making it one of the best parks in the city! Well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. No restrooms are available.

From I-80W, take exit 9 for Robb Dr. and merge right (north) onto Robb Dr. and take your first left (west) onto Sharlands Ave. Travel .5 miles and take your second right onto Avenida De Landa. Follow that north for .7 miles until you reach Beumont Pkwy, and take a left (northwest). Travel .4 miles on Beumont Pkwy. and make your first left (west) onto Clubhouse Dr. We'll meet at the old clubhouse.
Ballardini Ranch Trailhead

One of Reno’s newest trail systems, Ballardini Ranch will eventually connect Galena Creek to Hunter Creek. We will only be exploring a tiny portion of this trail system but with views of the entire Truckee Meadows this will be a park you will want to visit again and again.
Restrooms are available. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome.
From South McCarran Blvd., turn south onto Lakeside Dr. and drive approximately two miles (You'll pass the entrance to Bartley Ranch as well as Audrey Harris Park). Turn right (west) onto LoneTree Ln and drive a little less than a mile. The trailhead will be on your right (north).
Wedekind Regional Park ( Disc Drive Trailhead)

On this hike we will be exploring one of the best open space areas in Sparks. There are great views of the entire Reno and Sparks area after a moderate climb. Come learn about the fascinating mining history of this area! Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome. Pit toilet restrooms are available.

From I-80 exit on Pyramid way. Drive north on Pyramid Way past the McCarran intersection until you reach Disc Dr. Turn right onto Disc Dr followed by an immediate right to get to the parking lot.
Davis Creek Regional Park
June 30th, 2018
On this hike, we will be exploring the transition zone between the high desert and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We will be hiking the Discovery Trail as well as the Nature Trail, and we will be able to see the changes in the ecology that surrounds us as we move between the Great Basin and the Sierras. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome. Restrooms are available.

Drive south on I-580 and take Exit 50 for Bowers Mansion Road/Nevada 429/Old US-395. Turn right (south) onto Old US-395/Bowers Mansion Rd. Take the 1st right (west) onto Davis Creek Campground Road. Drive a few hundred feet and we'll meet in the parking lot to your right (north).
Mayberry Park and Dorostkar Park

Join us for a historical trek down the Truckee River as we hike from Mayberry Park to Dorostkar Park! On this hike we will follow the river from one park to the other with a short stop to tour a historic barn that has stood here for over 100 years. If we’re lucky we might even see Great Horned Owls! Local historian Jack Hursh will be joining us as well, making this a hike you definitely won’t want to miss. Well behaved dogs on leash are allowed, but not permitted on the barn property. Pit toilet restrooms are available.

From the intersection of W. 4th Street and S. McCarran Blvd., travel west on 4th St. and turn left (south) onto Woodland Ave. Travel south on Woodland Ave. to the Truckee River and Mayberry Park. Parking is on the north side of the Truckee River.
Galena Creek Regional Park
August 25th, 2018
A great summer hike, the Bitterbrush and Nature Trails inside Galena Creek Regional Park offer an introduction to the many trails that originate from this park. The unique natural history of this area is sure to make this a fascinating adventure for all. Well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. Restrooms are available.
From Reno, head south on Hwy. 580/US 395. Take exit 56 for NV 431/Mt. Rose Hwy.Travel up Mt. Rose Highway until it turns from four lanes to two lanes. Not far beyond that, turn right into Galena Creek Recreation Area (same entrance for the Visitor's Center). Follow the park road straight until it turns into a one-way loop. Enter the loop and drive to the farthest point out. We'll see you in the parking lot!
Bartley Ranch Regional Park

The only thing that can match the beauty of Bartley Ranch Regional Park in late summer is its history. This two-mile hike will take you back in time as we discuss how the historic village in this 117-acre park came to be. Don’t miss out on this exciting look into our area’s storied history! From South McCarran, turn south onto Lakeside Dr. Travel less than 0.5 miles down Lakeside drive, turn left (southeast) on to Bartley Ranch Rd. Go to the covered bridge and turn into the parking lot on your right. We'll meet at the historic Huffaker School House on your right (west).
Upper Thomas Creek Trail

Come explore the Upper Thomas Creek Trail with us as we venture through some amazing fall colors near the Mount Rose Wilderness. This moderate hike follows Thomas Creek as it winds its way through scenic views and the best fall colors the Truckee Meadows has to offer. Well behaved dogs on leash welcome. Restrooms are available.

From U.S. 395, take State Route 431 (Mount Rose Highway) west to Timberline Road. Turn north on Timberline, and drive past the end of the pavement and cross over Thomas Creek. The trail begins at the trailhead on the west side of Timberline Road.
Huffaker Park Lookout Trail

Come explore the ancient volcanoes that line the eastern edge of Reno. Not only do the Huffaker Hills have fascinating geological history but they offer some of the best views of our city and the Truckee Meadows you could ever ask for. Well behaved dogs on leash welcome. Restrooms are available. [Note: This is NOT the Huffaker Trailhead located on Alexander Lake Rd.]

From South Virginia Street, follow Longley Lane northeast. Turn east on East Huffaker Lane at the signal light. The park is on the right, park on the street and we will meet near the tennis courts!
