Camp is right around the corner, and we’re getting ready for a summer full of discovery, exploration, and STEAM-powered adventures.

At Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, we believe the real magic of camp comes from the incredible people who bring it all to life. Our educators, naturalists, and summer staff are the ones helping kids find bugs, spark curiosity, build confidence, and discover the joy of the outdoors.

So before the sunscreen gets passed around and the walkie-talkies start buzzing, we’re giving you a sneak peek at the dream team behind this year’s summer camp. Check out their fun facts, passions, and what they’re most excited for this season.

And if you have a favorite summer camp memory of your own, keep reading. We’d love to hear it.

Julia

Camp Manager First summer as Camp Manager, third with TMPF “My favorite part about camp is getting to connect with kids and see what sparks their passion. I want to create a fun and safe environment for every camper to learn, grow, explore, and build a community. Parents should feel confident in the space we’re creating and excited for their kids.” Other things I love: yoga, napping, and anything adventurous Surprise fact: Still deciding my favorite animal. There are too many cool ones. North, South, East, West... Truckee Meadows is the best

Dayna

Youth Programs Coordinator Second year helping with camp "Hello! I'm Dayna, Youth Programs Coordinator at the Parks Foundation. This will be my second year helping with camp, and I'm so excited to continue to show youth in our community the beauty and value of the outdoors. Favorite camp memory: Running the bracelet-making club or the time our campers got to shave Devin's (our VP of Education) head."

Elyssa

Lead Outdoor STEAM Educator Serving with AmeriCorps at TMPF "Hi all! My name is Elyssa Santana. I have the privilege of hanging out at Idlewild Park with the coolest kiddos and staff all summer at TMPF's Summer Break Camp. I am an AmeriCorps member serving as the Lead Outdoor STEAM Educator. Camp goals: I’m so excited to make new friends, learn about our wonderful national parks through hands-on STEAM activities thoughtfully planned by our educators, and make memories in one of the most beautiful spots in Reno."

Ben

STEM Educator Degree in Plant Science from UNR "Hi, my name is Ben Peters. I’m 25 years old and an avid nature lover and volunteer. I have my degree from UNR in Plant Science, so I’m excited to share my fascination with botany this summer at camp." Fun fact: I met Cara Mund, Miss America 2018, when my team won a Unit Award for We The People at the national competition in Washington DC.

Erin

Naturalist Educator Studied Environmental Science at UNR “Hi all. My name is Erin Kostan. I’m a naturalist educator at TMPF and in my free time, I love outdoor adventures from hiking to skateboarding. I’m passionate about sharing my love for the environment with kids and helping them build their own connections with nature.” Fun fact: If it involves wheels or trails, I’m probably into it Camp vibes: Looking forward to meeting all the bright new faces this summer

Nyaabila (Buddy)

Education Outreach Coordinator Third term with TMPF "My name is Nyaabila, but I also go by Buddy. This is my third term serving with the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation. The camps we hold are my favorite part of the job. There are always new activities and lessons that keep things exciting, and the kids bring so much energy and creativity to the table."

Anna

Camp Educator Former Tennessean turned Nevadan "Hi. My name is Anna Sisson, and I am excited to be a Camp Educator this summer. I moved from Tennessee to Nevada to join TMPF, and I love my job. Outside of camp, I teach for TMPF's Student Stewards Program in elementary schools around Washoe County. Passionate about: Inclusion and creating a welcoming, safe environment where kids can grow and be themselves Off the clock: Hiking, playing with my cat Starry, cooking, and spending time with friends"

Nick

Outdoor STEM Educator "Hi. My name is Nick Voytko, and I am an Outdoor STEM Educator. I have a passion for history and passing it on" Fun fact: I graduated high school with an NBA player

Tell Us Your Camp Story

As we gear up for another unforgettable summer, we’d love to hear from you. What’s your favorite camp memory? Share it in the comments below or tag us on social media @tmparksfoundation. Your story might just inspire a new generation of campers.
