Northgate Golf Course

What once was a golf course in northwest Reno, is now a beautiful 206 acre park.

From Golf Course to Park

In 1876 the U.S. Patent Office under Ulysses S. Grant, transferred ownership of the property to the Central Railroad Company. Subsequently transferred to the sheep farming Basque family called the Landa’s. Fast forward to 1976 when the property was bought by Robert Beaumont from the Landa brothers. In 1985 Beaumont’s company (RJB Development) deeded the property to Washoe County, in order to develop the Northgate Golf Course. The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) operated the golf course until 2009. Per the deed restrictions, the land reverted to RJB Development. The City of Reno along with local residents persuaded the owners to give them time to purchase the property from them to be converted to a park. After 3 years and many months of negotiations, the heirs of Robert Beaumont struck a 2.5 million dollar deal for the property. Escrow closed in 2011.

Fun Fact!

The City of Reno with Washoe County and a grant from the National Park Service worked with the American Society of Landscape Architects to complete a concept plan for the park.
